Missing man: Gary Bain from Belfast
An extensive multi-agency search is continuing today for missing Belfast man Gary Bain, as police renew their appeal for public assistance.
Gary, aged 37, was last seen in the Ormeau Bridge area on Wednesday morning, 21st January, and officers say searches will continue throughout the area as efforts intensify to trace his whereabouts.
The operation, now entering its second day, is being led by the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) and involves a coordinated response from emergency services and voluntary partners, highlighting the seriousness of the concern for Gary’s welfare.
Chief Inspector Mark Conway acknowledged the distress being felt by Gary’s loved ones and the wider community.
“We understand the community’s concern and know that this is a very painful time for Gary’s family. We want to assure them that we are working hard to find Gary with the assistance of our colleagues from NI Fire and Rescue Service, Coastguard and voluntary partners from Community Rescue Service. All these enquiries are being coordinated by a Police Search Adviser (POLSA).”
Members of the public may notice a continued presence of police and emergency responders in the area, particularly around the River Lagan, where searches remain ongoing.
“We are now on day two since Gary was last seen. The public will have seen police and emergency services in the area conducting out ongoing searches and this will continue with searches around the River Lagan area.”
Police have thanked those who have already come forward with information and are urging anyone else who may have seen Gary to get in touch.
“We’d like to thank those members of the public who have already contacted us with information on his movements on Wednesday morning.”
Investigators are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen Gary in the days leading up to Wednesday, including Tuesday, or during the early hours of Wednesday morning.
“If anyone did see Gary in the days leading up to Wednesday, particularly the previous day in the city centre or in the areas of Annadale embankment, Botanic and Ormeau Road on Wednesday morning from 1am-6am to get in contact. Also, to any drivers in the Ormeau Road area, please review your dash-cam recordings for any potential sightings of Gary.”
