Ballymena Causeway Credit Union announces new name after regional growth

Ballymena Causeway Credit Union (BCCU) on William Street, Ballymena

Ballymena Causeway Credit Union will begin operating under a new trading name, Evolve Credit Union, from 30 April 2026, marking a significant shift following years of expansion and the integration of members from across multiple local credit unions.

The move comes after a period of sustained growth and a series of Transfers of Engagement that brought together members from Causeway, Antrim, Randalstown and surrounding areas under one organisation.

The rebrand formally unites the legacies of Ballymena Credit Union, Causeway Credit Union and Antrim Credit Union under a single identity.

A single identity for a growing membership

The organisation said the decision reflects its evolution into a broader, more connected credit union serving an expanded geographical area and membership base.

In a communication to members, Chief Executive Michelle O’Neill said the change follows feedback from staff, members and stakeholders who expressed strong support for a name and brand that better represents the organisation as it stands today.

“Today, we are one credit union under a single umbrella, serving a wider and more connected community,” she said.

The new name is intended to reflect that transformation, with the credit union stating that “now is the right time to bring everyone together under one identity.”

Honouring the past while signalling change

Despite the rebrand, the organisation has emphasised continuity with its longstanding values, rooted in the histories of the three original credit unions.

“We are proud of the strong foundations built over many years by Ballymena Credit Union, Causeway Credit Union and Antrim Credit Union,” the statement said.

Those principles — community, trust and putting members first — will remain central to operations, with the new identity positioned as a way of carrying that legacy forward while building a shared future.

The name “Evolve” has been chosen to reflect the organisation’s journey of growth and adaptation, as well as its ambition to continue developing services, support members through all stages of life, and maintain a sustainable model for the future.

What the change means for members

For members, the credit union has stressed that the transition will not affect day-to-day services or accounts.

Account details, savings, loans and login information will remain unchanged, while standing orders and payment arrangements will continue as normal.

Members will continue to deal with the same staff and receive the same level of service.

The credit union also confirmed that savings will remain protected in line with regulatory requirements and that it will continue to be authorised and regulated in the same way as before.

“In short, it is business as usual,” the organisation said.

What will change in the coming weeks

Members will begin to see visible changes rolled out in the lead-up to the official transition date.

These include the launch of a new website at www.evolvecu.co.uk, updated email addresses using the evolvecu.co.uk domain, and rebranded social media channels under the Evolve Credit Union name.

The organisation’s mobile app will update automatically, while existing email addresses will remain active during the transition period to ensure continuity of communication.

Physical changes will also take place across branches, with new signage, branding and communications materials introduced. However, phone numbers and branch locations will remain unchanged.

The new branding will retain familiar elements, including the credit union hands symbol, which the organisation said continues to represent “trust, support and community spirit”.

Members urged to review account details

Alongside the rebrand, members are being encouraged to ensure their personal information is up to date.

This includes checking identification, proof of address, contact details and reviewing their Nomination on Account — the designated individual who would receive account balances and any associated Life Savings Insurance or Death Benefit Insurance in the event of their death.

The credit union noted that for many members, these details may not have been updated for some time and circumstances may have changed.

Staff will be available to assist members with updates at any branch or via phone.

No action required as transition begins

Members are not required to take any action in relation to the rebrand itself, with the organisation confirming that all changes will be managed internally.

“This is the same credit union — just with a new name that better reflects who we are today,” the statement said.

The transition to Evolve Credit Union is set to take effect from 30 April 2026, marking a new chapter for one of the area’s key financial community institutions as it positions itself for future growth.
