The Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) has welcomed Samantha Patton as its new North Antrim representative for the Braid area, where she will work alongside Councillor Alan Barr to strengthen community engagement and champion local issues.
A respected businesswoman, early years educator, and former RAF servicewoman, Samantha brings a wealth of experience and deep community roots to her new public service role.
From military service to community leadership
Samantha’s story is one of dedication, resilience, and service — qualities that have shaped her journey from military life to community leadership.
“My journey began at a young age, serving in the military. This has instilled in me a strong sense of commitment, loyalty, hard work, and pride. These values guide my dedication to all things I put my hand to,” Samantha said.
After transitioning from the Armed Forces, Samantha went on to run successful family businesses and later established her own nursery school, combining her entrepreneurial spirit with a passion for education and child development.
“Having transitioned from military service to running family businesses, I understand the challenges of balancing entrepreneurship with family life,” she added.
“It is essential for our local council to support individuals in bringing their business ideas to fruition.”
Championing education and community wellbeing
Drawing on her experience in early years education, Samantha is passionate about ensuring every child has access to high-quality learning opportunities.
“I firmly believe that no child should be left behind, and it is crucial to foster an environment where education and families collaborate to support our children’s growth,” she said.
Her priorities include building safer, more connected communities, supporting families, and fostering inclusion.
“Safety is paramount, and I believe it’s essential for our community to be a place where everyone — our children, women, and all residents — feel secure and connected,” Samantha said.
“Together, we can create a supportive atmosphere that benefits all, from businesses to families and our children.”
A commitment to the Union and local prosperity
Samantha also emphasised the importance of the Union’s role in strengthening local services and opportunities.
“Our connection with the UK as part of the Union is essential for the prosperity of our community,” she said.
“A strong Union means we can access high-quality frontline services like our health care, education, and GP services.”
She added: “It opens the door to new businesses and opportunities that benefit everyone, allowing us to grow and thrive together.”
Warm welcome from the UUP team
Welcoming her appointment, North Antrim MLA Jon Burrows said he was delighted to see Samantha join the team.
“Samantha will work with Councillor Alan Barr in delivering strong representation for the people in Braid on issues that matter to them,” he said.
“She has the values and attributes that we value in the UUP — service, care, entrepreneurship, and a strong community focus.”
Councillor Alan Barr also praised Samantha’s background and commitment:
“I welcome Samantha to our team and as a UUP representative for Braid. She will be a key player in demonstrating and proving that the UUP are serious about delivering for Braid and North Antrim,” he said.
“Samantha’s service in the RAF shows that she is committed to our country, a dedicated team player and can go the extra mile.”
“As someone who operates a local playgroup, Samantha is fully aware of the concerns and needs of young families in our area,” he added.
Looking ahead
Samantha says her focus will be on building a brighter, more inclusive future for North Antrim, where “businesses flourish, children thrive, education is valued, and our rich culture is celebrated.”
“Because when culture is valued, pride is born anew,” she said. “I look forward to the opportunity to serve you and to make our community a better place for all.”
