South Antrim MP Robin Swann has welcomed decisive action by local police to tackle dangerous driving across Crumlin and Nutts Corner.
Concerns about reckless driving in the area were raised with Mr Swann by a local resident who attended his recent constituency surgery in Crumlin. The MP said he was encouraged by the prompt response from the police following these reports.
Mr Swann stated:
“I want to thank the Antrim and Newtownabbey Neighbourhood Policing Teams for taking these concerns seriously and for the measures they are now putting in place including a targeted patrolling map covering known hotspots as well as increased coordination with other policing teams in Belfast and Lisburn.
“These actions show a real commitment to tackling the issue.”
The Ulster Unionist MP also acknowledged previous successes in the area, noting that earlier this year, the Crumlin DEA Neighbourhood Police successfully closed a well-known illegal drifting site near Nutts Corner.
Mr Swann added:
“The vast majority of those who drive on these roads are responsible, however, a small number continue to put others at risk. I will continue to work with local police, councillors and residents to bring this dangerous driving to an end.”
The MP’s comments come amid ongoing community concerns about high-speed driving, anti-social car gatherings and drifting events that have caused noise disturbance and posed risks to road users in recent months.
Residents are being urged to report any incidents of dangerous or anti-social driving to the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) via the non-emergency 101 number or online reporting tools.
Mr Swann said he would continue to liaise with local authorities to ensure that safety measures remain a priority on roads across South Antrim.
