RNLI Redbay to the rescue after yacht loses rudder

The volunteer crew of RNLI Redbay Lifeboat were tasked on Sunday afternoon by HM Coastguard after a yacht lost its rudder at sea.

A RNLI Redbay spokesperson commented:

“Red Bay Lifeboat launched on service today at 12.50pm, Sunday 31 July, to go to the aid of a 10m yacht, 15.5 miles East of Cushendall.

“The yacht with one person on board lost its rudder and requested assistance.

“Conditions were difficult in the rough seas and strong winds. The lifeboat crew towed the vessel to Glenarm Marina arriving at 4.30pm.

“The rescue operation was coordinated by Belfast Coastguard.”
