A much-loved summer tradition is set to return this August as Theatre in the Park once again graces the green spaces of Ballymena and Carrickfergus.

The acclaimed Illyria Outdoor Theatre will bring Jane Austen’s timeless classic Pride and Prejudice to life in two enchanting open-air performances.

Audiences can look forward to a magical evening of theatre under the skies in Shaftesbury Park, Carrickfergus on Wednesday 20 August, and in People’s Park, Ballymena on Thursday 21 August.

Both shows will begin at 7.30pm, with gates opening from 6.30pm.

In celebration of Jane Austen’s 250th birthday, Illyria’s sparkling adaptation of the beloved novel promises charm, wit, and romance. Having enjoyed seven consecutive sell-out seasons, this production is a proven crowd-pleaser for Austen fans and first-time theatre-goers alike.

Adding to the atmosphere, guests arriving early will be treated to live music from local performers. Third Carrickfergus Brass Band will entertain audiences ahead of the show in Carrickfergus, while Ballymena Ukulele Group will provide pre-show tunes at the Ballymena event.

“These events are a wonderful way to spend a summer evening with friends and family, enjoying live theatre in our beautiful local parks,” said a spokesperson for Mid and East Antrim Borough Council. “We are thrilled to welcome Illyria back for another unforgettable experience.”

Visitors are encouraged to bring picnics, rugs, or low-backed chairs and settle in for an evening of storytelling in the open air.

The performances are suitable for all ages, though children must be supervised. The event will go ahead regardless of weather, so theatre-goers are advised to come prepared.

Tickets are priced at just £5.25 + booking fee and can be purchased now by tapping the button below.

Early booking is strongly advised, as both performances are expected to sell out quickly.

Whether you’re a lifelong Austen enthusiast or simply looking for an enjoyable way to spend a summer’s evening, Theatre in the Park offers a unique opportunity to celebrate literature, community, and the joy of the outdoors.
