Motorists are being warned of road closures across Northern Ireland after Storm Boelo brought down trees, blocking major routes and disrupting journeys to Belfast International Airport.

Police have highlighted two particularly significant closures, including the Ballyrobin Road near the airport and the Glenshane Road, where fallen trees have made sections impassable.

Drivers are being urged to exercise caution, allow additional travelling time and avoid unnecessary journeys while disruption continues.

Ballyrobin Road closure may affect airport passengers

Both lanes of the Ballyrobin Road are currently impassable just beyond its junction with the Seven Mile Straight.

The closure could affect motorists travelling to Belfast International Airport, with passengers advised to allow extra time for their journeys and consider alternative routes.

Glenshane Road affected near Castledawson

Police have also reported a closure on the Glenshane Road, approximately half a mile from the Castledawson roundabout, on the Derry-bound carriageway.

The obstruction is among a number of road closures reported throughout Northern Ireland following fallen trees during the storm.

Police issue warning to motorists

In a statement, police said:

“Motorists are advised that Storm Boelo has led to road closures throughout Northern Ireland due to fallen trees.”

Highlighting the two affected routes, police added:

“We would particularly draw your attention to closures on the Ballyrobin Road - both lanes currently impassable just after the junction with Seven Mile Straight– which may affect journeys to Belfast International Airport; and on the Glenshane Road, around half a mile from Castledawson roundabout, Derry bound.”

Police have urged motorists to remain vigilant, particularly where fallen branches, debris or other storm-related hazards may be present.

They advised:

“Please continue to exercise caution while driving. If travel is essential, leave extra time for your journey and increase your stopping distance from the car in front.”

No reopening times have been confirmed for the affected roads. Motorists should check the latest traffic information before setting out, particularly if travelling to the airport or using routes affected by fallen trees.
