Police treating blaze at property as suspected arson




Police in Ballymena are treating a blaze at a derelict property in the town as suspected arson.


Emergency Services were alerted to the blaze shortly after 6pm on Saturday evening, 12 March, on Cullybackey Road in the area of the entrance to St Louis Grammar School. Three Fire Appliances from Ballymena and Antrim attended the scene of the blaze, which is understood to have been well-established when crews arrived. Firefighters used breathing apparatus and hose reels to extinguish the blaze.


Concerned members of the community said a groups of young people were seen around the derelict two-storey property a number of times.


A spokesperson for the Police Service of Northern Ireland said:

Police received a report of a suspected arson at a derelict property on Cullybackey Road outside Ballymena on Saturday night (12th March) around 6.10pm.


“Police and Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service attended.


“Enquiries are ongoing.”
