A 52-year-old man has died following a single-vehicle motorcycle collision in Carrickfergus on Wednesday evening.


Police have named the man as Philip McMeekan, who was from the Comber area.


Collision on Shore Road


Police said they received a report at approximately 7.25pm on Wednesday, 30 September, of a single-vehicle collision involving a Triumph Rocket motorcycle on the Shore Road.



Emergency services attended the scene, but Mr McMeekan was sadly pronounced dead.


Detective Inspector Stewart, from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Collision Investigation Unit, said:


“At approximately 7.25pm, we received a report of a single vehicle collision on the Shore Road, Carrickergus involving a Triumph Rocket motorcycle.


“Our officers attended, alongside colleagues from other emergency services, but sadly Mr McMeekan was pronounced deceased at the scene.


“The Shore Road, which was closed for a time, has now fully reopened.”



Police appeal for witnesses and footage


An investigation into the circumstances of the collision is continuing, with detectives appealing for anyone who witnessed what happened or who may have relevant footage to come forward.


Detective Inspector Stewart added:

Police investigators are now seeking to establish the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision and are urging anyone who was travelling on the Shore Road around the time it occurred to check any dash-cam footage they may have.
