Police in Mid Ulster have issued a warning to residents after reports of potential rogue traders cold-calling at homes and offering services.
In a statement, officers said they had been made aware of individuals approaching properties in the Ballyronan area and urged members of the public to remain cautious.
A spokesperson for the Police Service of Northern Ireland said:
“Police have been made aware of potential Rogue Traders, who have been cold calling at addresses offering services in the Ballyronan area. Please be mindful of these callers as they are not always as they appear and please check identification before agreeing to any work offered.”
Residents with any information have been asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 977 of 12/10/25.
Advice to residents
Police have reminded householders of a number of key steps to help identify genuine traders and avoid falling victim to scams.
Officers advised:
Any paperwork should include the trader’s proper name and address.
For services or goods costing over £42, traders must provide a written notice containing their name, address, price and description of the goods or services.
Customers must also be given notice of their right to cancel.
If a quoted price rises significantly without explanation, it could be a sign of a rogue trader.
The police spokesperson added that genuine tradespeople “will have no issue with a customer confirming these points.”
How to report suspicious activity
Anyone who feels unsure about a trader or suspects fraudulent activity is encouraged to report it to police via the non-emergency number 101 or through the online reporting tool at https://orlo.uk/xidEb.
Residents are also asked to keep any leaflets or flyers provided and, if possible, to note vehicle registrations or descriptions of those involved.
Police have reiterated that vigilance and prompt reporting can help prevent others from becoming victims of rogue traders.
