Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland's Major Investigation Team have this morning (Friday 26 May) conducted a "significant search and arrest operation in relation to the attempted murder of Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell".

Eleven people - nine men and two women - aged between 21 and 72 years old were arrested under the Terrorism Act in Omagh and Coalisland.

They have been taken to the Serious Crime Suite in Musgrave where they are currently being questioned by detectives.

DCI John Caldwell was shot multiple times by two gunmen on Wednesday 22 February 2023, at a sports centre in Omagh’s Killyclogher Road where he was coaching young people at a football game.

Police have attributed the murder attempt to dissident republican group the Real IRA.
