Police in Magherafelt have issued a public appeal for assistance in identifying the body of a man found in the Diamond area of the town earlier today, Sunday 14th December.

Officers were alerted to the discovery during the morning, prompting an immediate investigation. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has confirmed that the man is believed to have died within the past 24 hours and that his death is not being treated as suspicious at this time.

Inspector Knipe has urged members of the public to consider whether anyone they know may be unaccounted for.

“We believe this gentleman may have gone missing within the last 24 hours and we are asking the public to think about any family members, neighbours or friends that they haven’t seen or heard from – and to check that they are safe and well,” he said.

The man is described as being in his mid-20s, of slim build, with short dark hair and a short dark beard. Police have also noted that he has three piercings in his left ear.

At the time he was found, the man was wearing a navy T-shirt, a blue sports top, dark jogging bottoms, and black-and-white Adidas shoes.
