Police appeal after suspected petrol bomb attack causes extensive damage to car in Antrim

Police are appealing for witnesses after a suspected petrol bomb attack caused extensive damage to a car in Antrim late on Sunday night.

Shortly before midnight on Sunday, 13 September, police received a report of an attack on a vehicle in the Barra Street area of the town.

Officers attended alongside crews from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, who extinguished the blaze.

Suspect fled towards Durnish Road

Police believe the suspect was dressed entirely in dark clothing, was wearing a face covering and fled the scene on foot in the direction of Durnish Road.

No injuries were reported, but police said the vehicle sustained extensive damage.

Describing the incident as a “reckless act”, police said:

“This was a reckless act which we’re treating as deliberate ignition and our enquiries remain ongoing to establish the circumstances.”
