Planning application lodged for new homes on the East Antrim coast

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council has received a planning application for a proposed new housing development in the Cairncastle area, outside Larne.

The application is seeking approval for the construction of five detached two-storey properties between numbers seven and 15 Drumnagreagh Road, with the development being accessed by one private entrance onto the main road.

Previously planning permission was approved by the council in February this year for eight self-catering holiday homes on the site of the former Drumnagreagh Hotel.

The former hotel is located on a 3.4 acre site, and has been vacant since the late 1990s. The building was gutted by a fire in 2009 and been in a derelict state, and eyesore on the beautiful Antrim Coast.

The property was originally built as a period property, but more recently listed status has been removed.

The proposed development plans have been lodged by the Michael Hughes Trust of which former Premier League footballer Michael Hughes is a director.

Another planning application was lodged for the conversion of the former Rainbow Nursery premises on Brustin Brae Road, outside Ballygally. Planning approval would see the building converted to a single home.
