A person has died following a single-vehicle collision in the Caledon area on Saturday night, with police confirming an arrest has been made as an investigation continues into the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.

Emergency services were called to the Derrycourtney Road shortly after 11pm on Saturday, April 25, after reports of a crash involving a van.

Officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland attended the scene alongside colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service.

Despite their efforts, one person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detective Inspector Dave Stewart, from the PSNI’s Collision Investigation Unit, confirmed the details of the incident and the ongoing investigation.

“Police received a report shortly after 11pm on Saturday of a collision involving a van in the Derrycourtney Road area,” he said.

“Officers, along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, attended, however, sadly one person was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“Derrycourtney Road, which was closed overnight, has since reopened.

“One arrest has been made and our enquiries are continuing.”

The road remained closed for a number of hours overnight as investigators examined the scene, before reopening to the public.

Police have not released further details about the identity of the deceased or the circumstances leading up to the collision.

Investigators are now working to establish exactly what happened in the moments before the crash, including any contributing factors.

As part of those enquiries, officers are appealing to the public for information, particularly from anyone who may have been in the area at the time.

“We would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have digital footage which could assist with our investigation, to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting reference number 1706 of 25/04/26.”
