Local couple, Adrian and Jayne McCaw, have launched their annual Christmas light-up at their Carnalbanagh home, in aid of the Children’s Cancer Unit at the Royal Victoria Hospital.

The festive-loving family have always loved bringing a bit of light to the darkness of the County Antrim countryside for many years, but it was last year during lockdown that husband Adrian spent his spare hours putting up more and more lights until more than 10,000 energy-friendly LED lights “lit up the rural dwelling like a runway”, according to Jayne.

The couple felt inspired to use their love of lights to raise money for a vital local charity, after hearing how charities were struggling to raise funds during a global pandemic.

After last years fundraising light-up, the family were both amazed and thankful when they counted up the pounds and pennies kindly donated, and were able to present a cheque for £2,043.41 to the very worthy cause.

Jayne commented:

“Last year was our first year fundraising for charity, and we were completely overwhelmed by the response, after raising over £2000 for the Childrens Cancer Unit at the Royal Victoria Hospital, and that doesn’t include the corporate sponsorship!

“We would like to thank everyone for their kind donations.

“The Children’s Cancer Unit is a cause very close to our hearts, so we have decided to raise money for them again this year.

“We hope you enjoy the lights! If you'd like to come and see the lights, just set the GPS for Carnalbanagh, and trust me, you won’t miss us.

“When you‘re driving by, give us a peep of the horn and if you can please donate. Every penny is appreciated. There is a roadside collection box, or you can also donate directly to the charity through our JustGiving page online (link below)”.

The beautiful light display can be viewed and enjoyed every night in December between 5pm and 9pm. The little McCaw elves are in charge of switching on and off!

Jayne concluded: “We hope the extra lights will help make the dark nights that little bit brighter and give everyone something to smile about.”

Christmas at the McCaw’s is an ‘enlightening experience’!
