A close-knit rural community in North Antrim came together on Tuesday evening to pray for Shelly Feeney, a local woman seriously injured in a tragic accident on Monday, 14 April.

The incident, which occurred in Mosside, has left the well-known local woman in critical condition at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, prompting an outpouring of support from residents and local leaders.

A call to prayer was issued earlier on Tuesday by Mosside Presbyterian Church, inviting the community to gather in the church hall between 6:30pm and 7:30pm to offer prayers for Shelly Feeney and her family.

The church’s spokesperson highlighted the gravity of the situation, stating: “As many of you know, there was a tragic accident yesterday in Mosside, where Shelly Feeney was seriously injured. She is in critical condition at the minute and she needs our prayers.”

The spokesperson extended an open invitation to the community, encouraging as many people as possible to attend. “You can drop in and drop out throughout the hour, and you don’t have to pray out loud, but your presence and your prayers would be appreciated,” they added, emphasising the inclusive nature of the gathering.

The accident has sent shockwaves through the small village of Mosside.

North Antrim MP Jim Allister issued a heartfelt statement on Tuesday evening, reflecting the community’s shared concern.

“Following a tragic accident in Mosside, North Antrim, there is much anxiety and worry for the young mother involved and her wider family,” Mr Allister said. “Many are thinking and praying for this family at this dire time.

“As the community unites in prayer, may the God of all mercy meet their needs.”

As the community continues to rally, the call for prayers extends beyond Mosside, with many across North Antrim and further afield expressing their support.

The Royal Victoria Hospital, where Shelly is receiving treatment, is one of Northern Ireland’s leading trauma centres.
