A man has been arrested in Antrim after a quick-thinking homeowner and fast response from police led to his detention just minutes after a burglary was reported.
Police said the incident happened earlier today, Saturday 13 September, in the Steeple Road area of the town, when a female householder and her toddler disturbed a man in the kitchen of their home.
The suspect fled the scene, and the woman immediately contacted police.
“Approximately 5 minutes after making the 999 call a male matching the description given by the householder was detained by Interceptors a short distance away on Oriel Road,” a PSNI spokesperson confirmed.
The man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and is now assisting police with their enquiries.
Officers praised the householder for her swift and accurate account, which enabled them to act quickly.
“Due to the prompt actions and accurate description given by the home owner this male was detained before they could get away from the area,” police said.
