Multi-agency search operation launched in County Antrim

A multi-agency rescue operation was launched on Thursday evening (3 March) on the County Antrim coast involving Coleraine and Ballycastle Coastguard, Red Bay RNLI, alongside colleagues in PSNI Air Support.

The alarm was raised at 6:40pm after reports were received of a person in difficulty on the cliffs along Claire Road in Ballycastle.

After extensive searches in the area by Coastguard Rope Rescue teams, assisted by the search light of PSNI Air Support, nothing was found and the search was suspended.


A spokesperson for RNLI Redbay commented:


“Red Bay Lifeboat crews launched last night, 3rd March at 19.10, to assist Coastguard teams from Ballycastle and Coleraine, along with the PSNI Air Support to a report of a person in difficulty.


“An intensive search of the coast and shoreline was conducted near Ballycastle. Nothing was found and our volunteer crew returned to station at 22.00.”
