Motorcyclist sadly dies following two-vehicle collision in Cushendall

A 55-year-old motorcyclist from the Bellaghy area has sadly died following a serious road traffic collision in Cushendall on Sunday afternoon.


Police confirmed the man died at the scene following the two-vehicle collision on Chapel Road on Sunday, June 28.


The incident prompted a major emergency response, with police and other emergency services attending the scene shortly before 1pm.



Fatal collision closes Chapel Road


Detective Inspector Stewart, from the Collision Investigation Unit, said officers received a report of the collision shortly before 1pm.


The motorcyclist, who was aged 55 and from the Bellaghy area, was pronounced dead at the scene.


His death brings further tragedy to Northern Ireland’s roads and will be felt deeply by his family, friends and local community.


The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.



Police appeal for witnesses and dash-cam footage


The Chapel Road was closed in both directions for several hours while collision investigators carried out forensic examinations and enquiries at the scene.


The road has since reopened to motorists.


Police are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have captured the incident or the moments leading up to it on dash-cam footage, to come forward.



Detective Inspector Stewart said:


“Shortly before one pm, police received and responded to a report of a two vehicle collision on the Chapel Road.


“Colleagues from other emergency services were also in attendance.


“Sadly, the male rider of a motorcycle, who was 55 years old, and from the Bellaghy area, died at the scene.


“The Chapel Road, which was closed in both directions as enquiries were conducted, has now re-opened to motorists.


“Enquiries remain ongoing this morning, and we are appealing to anyone with information about the collision, or who has dash-cam footage of what happened, to contact police quoting reference 863 28/06/26.”



Investigation continues


Collision Investigation Unit detectives continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash.


Anyone who witnessed the collision or who was travelling on Chapel Road in Cushendall around the time of the incident is being urged to contact police, particularly if they have dash-cam footage which may assist investigators.


Police have asked anyone with information to quote reference number 863 of 28/06/26 when making contact.


As enquiries continue, the focus remains on establishing exactly how the collision occurred and providing answers for the family of the man who lost his life.
