Mid and East Antrim Borough Council has welcomed plans that will see the International StatSports SuperCupNI return to Mid and East Antrim.
Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, Councillor Peter Johnston said:
“International sporting events such as this are a key driver for our hospitality and tourism sectors and form part of our plans for economic recovery.
“Mid and East Antrim have a proud history with this tournament which is now in its 38th year. Next year’s competition, planned to take place on the 25 – 30 July 2021, will see four age groups for the very first time, with organisers confirming that there will be an additional U14 section to complement the U13 Minor competition, U15 Junior section and the U17 Premier competition. A women’s section has also been confirmed which will bring the number of participating teams from 64 to 80.
“As Mayor I am keen that the new sections are played in Carrickfergus and Larne. This will result in many more additional bed nights and people visiting the Borough. This will be a welcome boost to the local and Northern Ireland economy.
“I am also delighted that the recent investment that Council put into Kells Playing Fields, by Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, now qualifies to be part of the tournament which strengthens our position as a key sponsor of the 2021 StatSports SuperCupNI games.”
