Mid and East Antrim remembers…

A number of events are set to take place across Mid and East Antrim Borough this weekend as the nation takes the opportunity to remember the service and sacrifice of of all those that have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life.


On Rembrance Sunday, tomorrow 12th November, we remember the Armed Forces, and their families, from Britain and the Commonwealth, the vital role played by the emergency services and those who have lost their lives as a result of conflict or terrorism.



Across the borough, events will take place in Ballymena, Carrickfergus, Larne, Broughshane, Cullybackey, Glynn, Kells & Connor, and Whitehead.


Details of Remembrance services taking place across the borough are listed below:


• BALLYMENA

(Parade accompanied by Ballygore Flute Band)


10:00am - Ballymena Branch Royal British Legion will depart from the Army Reserve Centre, Demense Ave (Escort for Army Reserve and Cadet Detachments), proceeding along Tardree Grove, Trostan Avenue


10:30am - Trostan Avenue, Castle Street, Bridge Street, Waveney Road, Galgorm Road.


10.40am - The parade will assemble at the Memorial Park, Galgorm Road.


10:50am - A Wreath Laying Ceremony will take place at the War Memorial.


11:25am - Leaving Memorial Park, Galgorm Road, Lower Mill Street, Wellington Street.


11:30am - Parade Salute on Wellington Street, before proceeding along Church Street, Castle Street, to St. Patrick's Church.


12:00pm - Service of Remembrance at St Patrick’s Church of Ireland.


1:15pm - Leaving St Patrick's Church, proceeding along Meeting House Lane, Demense Avenue, Tardree Grove, finishing at the Services Club on Trostan Avenue.



• CARRICKFERGUS


10:25am - Parade leaves Castle Car Park. Elected Members join the parade as it passes the Town Hall.


The salute will be taken on the parade’s return journey.


11:00am - Wreath Laying Ceremony at War Memorial.


• LARNE


10:35am - Parade leaves Royal British Legion premises, Point Street.


10:55am - Wreath Laying Ceremony at War Memorial. The parade will return to the Royal British Legion premises following the service.


11:30am - Service of Remembrance at First Larne Presbyterian Church.



• BROUGHSHANE


10:20am - Parade assembles at Broughshane Community Centre.


Wreath Laying Ceremony at War Memorial.


Service of Remembrance at 1st Broughshane Presbyterian Church.


Following the church service the parade will return to the Community Centre for dispersal.


• CULLYBACKEY


2:30pm - Parade forms at Cullybackey Reformed Presbyterian Church car park.


Wreath Laying Ceremony at War Memorial.


3:00pm - Service of Remembrance at Cunningham Memorial Presbyterian Church.



• GLYNN


2:45pm - Parade departs from Glenvale Park.


2.50pm - Wreath Laying Ceremony at War Memorial.


3:00pm - Service of Remembrance at St John’s Parish Church


• KELLS & CONNOR


2:45pm - Assemble at Remembrance Stone.


3:00pm - Remembrance Garden.


• WHITEHEAD


10:45am - Service of Remembrance and Wreath Laying at War Memorial.
