The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Northern Ireland as Storm Bram — officially named by Met Éireann — is forecast to bring severe winds and heavy rain across the UK later on Monday and through Tuesday.

The warning is in place from 9:00am to 9:00pm on Tuesday 9 December 2025, with forecasters urging the public to prepare for disruption to travel, power supplies and coastal areas.

Storm Bram is expected to track close to western Ireland on Tuesday, generating powerful south to southwesterly winds that may impact much of Northern Ireland.

According to the Met Office:

“Storm Bram is expected to pass close to western Ireland on Tuesday and bring some very strong south then southwesterly winds.

“Gusts around 50-60 mph are possible fairly widely, and potentially in excess of 70 mph for some exposed headlands and high ground. There is a small chance of even stronger winds should the area of low pressure pass closer to Ireland.

“Winds should gradually ease during Tuesday night.”

Potential Impacts

The yellow weather warning means residents may experience:

  • Travel delays on roads, rail and ferry services

  • Possible short-term power cuts

  • Large coastal waves and hazardous conditions along exposed coastlines

  • Difficult driving conditions, especially on bridges and higher-level routes

Forecast Outlook

While the strongest winds will be concentrated in western counties of Ireland and Northern Ireland, the Met Office says widespread gusts of 50–60 mph are likely, with over 70 mph possible in the most exposed locations.

Conditions are expected to improve gradually on Tuesday night as Storm Bram moves away and winds ease.
