The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Northern Ireland, with forecasters cautioning that “periods of heavy rain may lead to travel disruption and some flooding” between 00:00 on Sunday 14 December and 06:00 on Monday 15 December 2025.

According to the warning, “outbreaks of rain will affect Northern Ireland Sunday and clear away on Monday morning.”

The rain is expected to be “heavy and persistent at times with accumulations of 20–30 mm expected to develop widely.” Forecasters also warn that “over 50 mm could accumulate across higher ground.”

The prolonged spell of rainfall is likely to cause difficult driving conditions, spray on roads and potential delays to public transport. Localised flooding in low-lying or poorly drained areas is also possible, particularly where the heaviest downpours coincide with already saturated ground.

The Met Office routinely issues yellow warnings when the likelihood and impact of adverse weather require heightened public awareness.

Motorists and residents are advised to plan journeys carefully, allow extra time for travel, and stay updated with the latest conditions through official channels.

Emergency services and local councils may deploy flood-response teams if conditions worsen overnight. The warning remains in place until early Monday morning, when the rain is forecast to clear gradually from the west.
