The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain affecting Northern Ireland, saying heavy rain may lead to some flooding and transport disruption in places.

The warning is effective from 8:00pm this evening, Wednesday 25th September and 12:00pm on a Thursday 26th.

A spokesperson for the Met Office commented:

“Outbreaks of rain will become persistent and, at times, heavy on Wednesday evening, persisting through the night and perhaps much of Thursday morning.

“Eastern counties will see the largest rainfall amounts, especially across Co Down and Co Antrim, where 30 to 50 mm is likely quite widely, and perhaps as much as 60 to 80 mm across high ground such as the Mournes. Despite recent dry weather, this may lead to some flooding and transport disruption.

“The rain is expected to slowly ease through the late morning period.”
