MEA Summer Scheme goes virtual for 2020

School – or at least Home School – is almost ‘Out for Summer’, and while Mid and East Antrim Borough Council’s annual Summer Scheme programme will look a little different this year, there’s plenty on offer for all the family to join in!

With our leisure facilities still closed to the public in line with public health guidelines, Council’s Sports Development Team have designed a ‘Virtual Summer Scheme’ packed with everything from learning how to channel your inner circus performer to editing videos for your own blog or enhancing your photography skills.

There will also be lots of physical activity challenges to keep your child active throughout the summer months.

Join us on our social media channels from Monday 6 to Friday 10 July, for the first of three weeks of activities aimed at keeping your mind and your body healthy and well.

Best suited to ages 6-14, most activities can be taken on by all ages, so why not get the whole family involved?

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Cllr Peter Johnston, encouraged everyone to join in the MEA Virtual Summer Scheme 2020!

“It is so important that we take care of our physical and mental health and wellbeing during these challenging times.

“Council’s Sports Development Team have created a fantastic Virtual Summer Scheme which takes into account the Public Health Agency’s Take 5 Steps to Wellbeing guidelines, which encourage us to Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning and Give.

“Our Summer Schemes are extremely popular every year in Mid and East Antrim, but unfortunately due to the Coronavirus pandemic, we are unable to physically get together to enjoy all the fun that brings.

“However, there are so many fun things to do like Circus Skills, photography and drumming, within the Virtual Summer Scheme programme, which can all be enjoyed from the comfort of our own homes.”

Week 1 of the Virtual Summer Scheme programme can be viewed below:

More info on weeks 2 and 3 of the scheme will be released throughout July and August.

Before attempting any of the exercises or activities, please visit www.midandeastantrim.gov.uk/covid-19 for information on staying safe.
