MEA Mayor backing Sky Blues ahead of Irish Cup Final

The Mayor of Mid and East Antrim has backed Ballymena United for Irish Cup glory ahead of their showpiece clash with Crusaders.

The Sky Blues face the Belfast side in the final at Windsor Park on Saturday, with David Jeffrey's team aiming to capture the club's first Irish Cup win in 33 years.

Mayor William McCaughey said:

"Excitement levels are really building for the final and the town is right behind Ballymena United.

"It's been such a tough time for our entire community over the last couple of years, but sport - and particularly football - has a brilliant way of lifting spirits and giving us something to cheer.

"Ballymena United have a proud history and heritage, and they - along with clubs right across our Borough - work very closely with Council and are so key to our communities and the lives of many of our residents.

"I want to congratulate Ballymena United for getting to the final and wish them the very best in their bid to bring the Irish Cup back to Mid and East Antrim."
