Mid and East Antrim Borough Council’s Planning Committee have this morning (Thursday June 7) approved a proposal for a new Multi-use Games Area (MUGA) for Portglenone.
The new community facility will be located at existing lands at Portglenone Marina on Gortgole Road, and includes a new artificial playing surface, 5m boundary fence, flood lighting, drainage amendments and associated changes to surrounding access points to facilitate pedestrian and maintenance access.
TUV Bannside Alderman Stewart McDonald has welcomed the action on the 3G Pitch in Portglenone. In a statement he said:
“Having campaigned on the issue for a number of years, I greatly welcome the approval granted for a sports pitch at Portglenone.
“This is something which has been long promised to the people of the area with pledges that playing facilities would be constructed when the Marina was built - a project which was completed in early 2014.
“For too long the youth in the area have had to travel outside of their community to use facilities. Now that approval has been granted, it is time for delivery for the people of the local area.”
