Mayor’s praise for Women’s Institute as Larne branch marks 75 years

The Mayor of Mid and East Antrim has led the congratulations to Larne Women’s Institute, which is marking its 75th anniversary.

To mark the milestone, Larne members have undertaken to carry out ‘75 acts of kindness’, including providing shawls for the elderly leaving hospital, food parcels for those in need, as well as ‘gift packs’ for mothers and children in crisis.

To complete their activities, the group was recently joined by Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Alderman Noel Williams, who helped plant a commemorative tree in their honour in Chaine Park as a reminder that we also need to be kinder to our environment.

Speaking at the tree planting event, the Mayor thanked the representatives from Larne Women’s Institute for their contribution to the local community over the years and commended their 75 acts of kindness to mark their 75th anniversary.

Larne Women’s Institute President, Leanna Filbey, said:

“It has been a privilege to serve our local community and to commemorate our 75th anniversary with the planting of a tree which represents our hopes for the continued growth of our institute.”

The Larne group will bring its celebrations to a close with an afternoon tea in the Centenary Pavilion at the end of June.
