Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Jim Montgomery is urging residents to don their yellow t-shirt and sign up for this year’s Darkness into Light.
Organised by Pieta and supported by Electric Ireland, this annual, global, charity event will take place on Saturday 8 May at sunrise - symbolising hope to those in the community in suicidal crisis or self-harming.
Due to current government guidelines, the event is slightly different this year. Instead of the usual location of V36, supporters are asked to sign up and mark the event with an activity of their choice at a location that suits them.

“Now, more than ever, our communities need these support services and I am pleased to hear the event has been adapted to ensure it can still go ahead this year. We might not be able to come together this year the way we usually do at V36, however, whether you walk, hike, swim or cycle, on your own or with a friend, we will all be watching the same sunrise together.I would encourage you all to show your support and help raise vital funds and awareness for such a worthwhile cause.”
This year, Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council is partnering with Muckamore Parish Development Association, who provide a dedicated service in supporting and improving the well-being of families and individuals in our Borough.
