Man in his 20s taken to hospital after serious assault in Antrim as police arrest 27-year-old

A man in his 20s has been taken to hospital with severe facial injuries following a serious suspected assault in Antrim on Wednesday night, with a 27-year-old man arrested as police continue enquiries into the incident.


Detectives have issued an appeal for witnesses and footage after the injured man was found in the Dublin Road area at around 10pm on Wednesday, 15 April.



The incident is now the subject of an active police investigation, with officers particularly keen to trace anyone who may have seen a fight in another part of the town shortly beforehand.


Police appeal after man found with severe facial injuries


Detective Sergeant Erskine said officers received a report late on Wednesday evening that a man had been located in the Dublin Road area suffering from significant injuries.


He said:


“We received a report at approximately 10pm of a man located in the Dublin Road area with severe facial injuries – consistent with a suspected assault.



“The man, aged in his 20s, required hospital treatment for his injuries. A 27-year-old has been arrested following this incident and he remains in custody at this time as our enquiries continue into what happened.”


The extent of the man’s injuries has not been further detailed by police, however detectives described them as severe enough to require hospital treatment.


Focus turns to Greenview Avenue around 9pm


As part of the investigation, detectives believe there may have been a disturbance or fight in the Greenview Avenue area approximately an hour before the injured man was found.



Police are now urging anyone who was in the area around 9pm to come forward.


Detective Sergeant Erskine added:


“We would be particularly interested in speaking to anyone who was in the Greenview Avenue area of the town around 9pm who may have witnessed a fight.”


The appeal suggests investigators are working to establish the movements of those involved in the period leading up to the assault.



Appeal for dash-cam, CCTV and mobile phone footage


Detectives are also asking motorists, residents and anyone in the vicinity to review any footage that may assist the enquiry.


This includes dash-cam recordings, private CCTV systems and mobile phone footage from the Dublin Road and Greenview Avenue areas on Wednesday evening.
