Man in critical condition after serious collision between lorry and car

Police are appealing for information following a serious two-vehicle road traffic collision on the Annaghilla Road, near Augher, on Wednesday morning (7 January).


Emergency services were called to the scene shortly before 8.10am after reports of a collision involving a white Audi A4 and a yellow Renault lorry.



The driver of the Audi, a man aged in his 20s, was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition. Police have said it is not believed the driver of the lorry sustained serious injuries.


Confirming details of the incident, Sergeant Fletcher said:


“We received a report of a collision between a white Audi A4 and a yellow Renault lorry just before 8.10am.


“The driver of the Audi, a man aged in his 20s, was taken to hospital and remains in a critical condition. At this time, it isn’t believed that the driver of the lorry has sustained serious injury.”



Officers have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision and are urging anyone who was travelling in the area at the time to come forward.


Sergeant Fletcher added:


“Our enquiries are ongoing and we would appeal to anyone who may have been in the area at around the time that the collision occurred to contact us. We would be particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have relevant dashcam.


“The number to call is 101, quoting reference number 177 07/01/26.”



The Annaghilla Road was closed for a period to allow emergency services to respond and for collision investigation work to take place, but has since reopened.
