Detectives are investigating the report of a man being assaulted outside licensed premises in the Main Street area of Portglenone in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Detective Inspector Michael Hawthorn said:
"We received a report at around 1.10 am from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service of a man lying unconscious in the street and had sustained a head injury.
“The man, aged in his 30s, was taken to hospital for his injuries and remains in a critical condition.
“A 41-year-old man has been arrested and is currently in custody assisting officers with their enquiries.”
Earlier on Sunday (30 October) police advised motorists of a road closure at junction of Gortgole Road and Portglen Manor, Portglenone, while investigations continued into the assault.
