A 40-year-old man has been extradited from the Netherlands to Northern Ireland to face trial over a series of serious child exploitation offences.

The man was returned to Northern Ireland on Friday 22 August 2025 following extradition proceedings, and is due to appear before Lisburn Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Saturday 23 August.

The charges relate to two separate cases involving indecent images of children and alleged incitement to commit sexual assault.

The first case centres on 27 offences including the possession, making and distribution of indecent images of children. The second case involves 108 offences of a similar nature, along with charges of inciting the sexual assault of a child.

According to police, the offences occurred in the Lurgan area in 2014. The suspect had originally been granted Crown Court bail but absconded in late 2020, sparking a four-year international search.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed that today’s extradition marks the conclusion of that search.

Sergeant Davey from the International Policing Unit said:

“Today’s extradition demonstrates our continued and effective working with international partners to track down wanted persons and bring offenders to justice.

“In this case we worked closely with the National Crime Agency and authorities in the Netherlands to locate, arrest and extradite this suspect.

“Our message is clear to anyone who fails to abide by their bail conditions that they will be located, arrested and returned before the courts.”

The man will remain in custody pending his court appearance.
