Emmet Potter who was tragically died as a result of the road traffic collision
A 38-year-old man has been charged in connection with a fatal road traffic collision in Caledon which claimed the life of Emmet Potter, with police confirming he is due to appear in court today.
The charge follows the single-vehicle collision on Derrycourtney Road on Saturday, 25 April, which resulted in Mr Potter’s death and sparked an investigation by the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Collision Investigation Unit.
Serious charges brought following fatal crash
Police have confirmed the man has been charged with a number of serious offences, including dangerous driving causing death, driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs, and driving whilst disqualified.
The charges mark a significant development in the case, shifting the investigation into the judicial phase just days after the fatal incident.
Mr Potter had previously been named by police as the victim of the collision, bringing a personal dimension to a case now progressing through the courts.
Court appearance scheduled for today
The accused is expected to appear before Dungannon Magistrates’ Court today, Wednesday 29 April.
The case will be formally presented before the court, where the charges will be outlined and initial proceedings will begin.
As with all such cases, the charges will be subject to review by the Public Prosecution Service, which will determine how the case proceeds.
Investigation moves into legal phase
The transition from arrest to charge represents a key step in the legal process, as investigators conclude initial enquiries and prepare evidence for prosecution.
Police have not released further details regarding the circumstances of the collision, but the nature of the charges indicates that driving conditions and driver fitness are central to the case.
The outcome of today’s court appearance will set the direction for the next stage of proceedings, as the case moves through the Northern Ireland justice system.
