Man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after Coleraine stabbing

A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a reported stabbing in Coleraine town centre on Tuesday afternoon.


Police said a man in his 30s was injured during an altercation on Railway Road at around 1.20pm and was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening at this time.



Suspect arrested after significant police operation


Following what the PSNI described as a “significant policing operation”, officers arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder.


He remained in police custody on Tuesday evening.


Police have said they are not looking for any further suspects in connection with the incident, although enquiries remain ongoing.



Concern following town centre incident


Alliance Coleraine Alderman Yvonne Boyle said:


“It is extremely concerning to hear of the stabbing incident in Coleraine town centre. I would like to thank the emergency services for their quick response, and I wish the victim of the attack a full and speedy recovery.


“I would urge the public to follow the advice of the PSNI and to avoid the area where possible to give them space whilst they continue to respond to the incident.”



Police appeal for information


Detectives are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or who has information which could assist their investigation to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 690 06/10/26.

With one man in custody and police saying they are not seeking any other suspects, the investigation is now focused on establishing the circumstances surrounding Tuesday afternoon’s altercation.
