Ballymena, 22 June 2025 – Detectives investigating a serious assault in Ballymena during the early hours of Sunday morning have confirmed that a 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.


The arrest was made on Sunday afternoon, following reports that a man had been violently assaulted outside a licensed premises in the Ballymoney Street area of the town at around 2.05am.



The suspect, who was detained in Ballymena, has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and is currently in police custody as the investigation continues.


Earlier in the day, Detective Chief Inspector Neil McGuinness appealed for public assistance, stating:


“At approximately 2.05am, police received a report that a man had been assaulted outside a licensed premises in the Ballymoney Street area. Officers along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service attended and one man was taken to hospital for treatment for his injuries.”



Detectives are continuing to carry out enquiries and are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has relevant footage to come forward.


“Enquiries are ongoing,” a PSNI spokesperson said, “and anyone who may have witnessed the assault, or anyone with CCTV or other footage that could assist with enquiries is asked to contact detectives on 101 quoting reference 166 22/06/25.”
