Man arrested after drugs found hidden in young child’s bedroom in Antrim during INLA-linked investigation

Detectives investigating suspected criminal activity linked to the Belfast INLA have arrested a 29-year-old man after drugs were allegedly found hidden in a young child’s bedroom during a search in Antrim.

The Paramilitary Crime Task Force (PCTF) said officers also recovered cash during the operation earlier today, Friday 7 August.

The man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A and Class B controlled drugs, money laundering and child cruelty.

He has since been released on bail to allow detectives to carry out further enquiries.

Drugs recovered with help of police dogs

Police Dogs Kodi and Larry assisted officers during the search and helped recover the drugs.

Detective Inspector Cathy O’Hara said:

“With the help of our partners, we remain committed to removing dangerous drugs from our neighbourhoods and to protecting our communities.

“Today’s seizure and arrest demonstrates the PCTF’s commitment to tackling all types of organised criminality linked to paramilitaries.

Investigation linked to suspected Belfast INLA activity

Police said the search formed part of a PCTF investigation into suspected criminal activity linked to the Belfast INLA.

The PCTF brings together the Police Service of Northern Ireland, National Crime Agency and HM Revenue & Customs to target criminality associated with paramilitary groups.

It was established in 2017 with funding through the Executive Programme on Paramilitarism and Organised Crime and allows the agencies to share resources and specialist capabilities.
