Detectives investigating the attack on Dunmurry Police Station at the weekend have made a significant arrest, as a 66-year-old man was detained under the Terrorism Act and taken into custody for questioning.

The man was arrested on Tuesday morning, 28 April, following police searches in the Dunmurry area, marking a major development in the ongoing investigation led by the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Terrorism Investigation Unit.

He has been taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite, where he is currently being questioned by detectives.

Police have confirmed that a number of searches remain ongoing in both east Belfast and west Belfast as part of the wider operation.

The arrest comes as officers continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the attack, which prompted a large-scale security response and heightened concern within the local community.

Ongoing searches across Belfast as investigation expands

The PSNI confirmed that coordinated search activity is continuing across multiple locations, underlining the scale and complexity of the investigation.

While details of the attack itself have not been further disclosed at this stage, the use of terrorism legislation and the deployment of specialist investigators reflects the seriousness with which the incident is being treated.

Officers are working to identify all those involved and to establish any wider network or support connected to the attack.

Police reiterate appeal for information

As the investigation continues, police have renewed their appeal to the public for information that could assist detectives.

A spokesperson for the Police Service of Northern Ireland said:

“Please be assured that we will continue, tirelessly, with our efforts to bring those responsible to justice and to protect our local communities.”

They added that even the smallest detail could prove critical to the investigation and urged anyone with relevant information to come forward.
