Man (56) arrested after alleged assault on 7-year-old child in Co Antrim play park




Police have arrested and charged a 56-year-old male following the report of an incident in the Hillmount Gardens area of Larne, on Saturday evening, July 9.


According to the parent of the child, the 7-year-old boy was playing in the park near his family home at 8:30pm yesterday evening, when the man, who lives locally, became abusive towards the group of children.



The upset mum told Love Ballymena, he then proceeded to “reach through the park railing and grabbed my son, pulling him towards the railing, before biting him on his arm.”


The mum added: “My child has been left traumatised.”


A spokesperson for the Police Service of Northern Ireland confirmed that a male has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm following the report of an incident at a play park.



He is due to appear before Coleraine Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 11 July.


As is usual procedure all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service (PPS).
