Man, 50, sadly dies following two-vehicle collision in Co Antrim

A 50-year-old man has sadly died following a two-vehicle road traffic collision in Lisburn, police have confirmed.

James Bingham was pronounced dead at the scene after the collision, involving a white Citroen van and a white Mini, on Belfast Road in the early hours of Tuesday morning, 1 September.

Police are now appealing for witnesses and dash-cam footage as officers from the Collision Investigation Unit investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Collision reported shortly before 5.45am

Detective Inspector Stewart said police received a report of the collision at approximately 5.45am.

“We received a report at approximately 5.45am this morning, Tuesday 1st September, of a two-vehicle collision in the Belfast Road area of the city involving a white Citroen van and white Mini.

“Officers attended, alongside colleagues from other emergency services. Sadly, the driver of the Mini, 50-year-old James Bingham, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“The driver of the van, a man aged in his 40s, required medical treatment for injuries not believed to be life-threatening at present.

“The Belfast Road which was closed in both directions for a time, has now fully reopened to road users.”

Police appeal for witnesses and dash-cam footage

Officers investigating the fatal collision are asking anyone who witnessed what happened, or who may have relevant dash-cam footage from the Belfast Road area, to come forward.

The Belfast Road, which was closed in both directions while emergency services dealt with the collision and investigations were carried out at the scene, has since fully reopened.
