Man (28) charged following spate of burglaries in Glens and Antrim coast


A 28 year old man has been charged with two counts of burglary, theft, theft of vehicle, vehicle interference, two counts of possession of a Class A controlled drug, driving whilst disqualified and using a motor vehicle without insurance.


The charges are in relation to a number of incidents including a spate of burglaries in the North Antrim area which occurred between Tuesday 12th April and Thursday 21st April 2022.


The man was also arrested and released pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service in relation to a number of related offences.



At the time detectives launched an investigation after they received a report that a car had been ransacked on the Garron Road, Glenariff in the early hours of April 21st.


Police received a further report at 4.45am on the same date that a property on the Coast Road, Cushendall had also been broken into and a rear door and tills forced opened. Damage had been caused to internal doors.



Following the above reports a police spokesperson said a possible link was being investigated between these two incidents and further reports of burglaries at premises on the Whitepark Road, Ballintoy and the Garron Road and Glen Road in Glenariff, also on the same date.


In these incidents the lock of a garage was broken off and a number of items taken which included a mountain bike and gardening equipment. Additionally a wallet containing a sum of money along with tools were stolen from a van.



The man is due to appear at Coleraine Magistrates Court on Monday 5th December. As is normal procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
