Major rescue operation mounted in Carrickfergus



A major rescue operation was mounted on Wednesday evening (10 May) after it is understood a female entered the sea in the area of Carrickfergus Castle.

A spokesperson for the Police Service of Northern Ireland commented:


“Police, together with other emergency services, responded to a report of a concern for safety in the vicinity of Larne Road, Carrickfergus, at around 6.20pm yesterday, Wednesday 11th May.”



Bangor Lifeboat as well as Coastguard Rescue Teams from Portmuck and Larne rushed to the scene of the incident.

Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 118, based in Sligo, was diverted from a tasking in the Donegal area, though the female was recovered by RNLI Bangor by the time 118 arrived at the scene, shortly after 7pm.


The female‘s condition is unknown at this time.
