Shoppers at M&S Aldergrove can now enjoy a significantly bigger food store, with more than 2,000 additional products, a larger bakery and a new frozen food range following a major transformation that has increased the store’s size by 50%.
The expanded store officially opened its doors at 9am on Thursday 8 October, with four familiar faces given the honour of cutting the ribbon to celebrate the occasion.
Betty O’Neill, Caroline McGarry, Dawn Thornton and Maggie Jeans have all worked at M&S Aldergrove since it first opened in 2017, making the reopening a particularly special milestone for the long-serving colleagues.
More choice and new facilities for shoppers

The transformation has brought a substantial increase in shopping space, allowing M&S to introduce thousands of additional food products alongside a refreshed store layout and upgraded facilities.
For the first time, customers at Aldergrove can shop a dedicated frozen food range, while the expanded in-store bakery offers a wider selection of freshly baked products.
Coffee-to-go facilities have also been upgraded, providing another convenient option for customers visiting the store.
The expanded food offering includes more products from the retailer’s Remarksable Value and Bigger Pack Better Value ranges, alongside new product launches and an increased selection of organic foods.

Additional self-checkout tills have been installed to help customers complete their shopping more conveniently, while the existing Click & Collect service remains available.
Long-serving colleagues lead reopening celebrations
The decision to invite four original team members to cut the ribbon provided a personal touch to the reopening, recognising colleagues who have been part of the store throughout its nine-year history.
M&S Aldergrove Store Manager David Brady praised the team’s efforts in preparing for the reopening and said the occasion was especially meaningful for those who had been there from the beginning.

He said:
“It’s fantastic to finally welcome customers into our transformed Aldergrove store. The team has worked incredibly hard behind the scenes to get everything ready, and it was a particularly special moment to have four colleagues who have been part of the store since day one cut the ribbon.
“We’re delighted with the transformation, and the additional space means we can offer our customers even more of the M&S Food they know and love, alongside new products, services and features. We’re really looking forward to welcoming the local community back into store to see the changes for themselves.”
Part of wider investment in Northern Ireland stores

The Aldergrove transformation forms part of M&S’s ongoing store rotation and renewal programme across Northern Ireland, which focuses on creating larger, modernised food stores with expanded product ranges and improved shopping facilities.
The programme aims to make more of the retailer’s food offering available to customers while improving the overall shopping experience.
With the transformation now complete, customers visiting M&S Aldergrove will find a substantially larger store, greater choice across everyday essentials and speciality foods, and new facilities designed to make their shopping more convenient.
