Local Councillor welcomes agreement on maintenance of trees in Portglenone

Sinn Féin Councillor Ian Friary has welcomed an agreement which means that the trees on Portglenone Main Street will now be maintained by Council with the Department for Infrastructure covering the costs. Councillor Friary said:

“I have been engaging with local businesses, community groups in the town, the council and the Department for Infrastructure to make sure that responsibility was clearly identified for the maintenance of the trees along Main Street in Portglenone. “I am delighted that the issue has now been resolved and the Council will carry out any necessary work on the upkeep and maintenance of these trees and the Department for Infrastructure will cover the cost. “The trees are an important part of Portglenone during the Winter months but particularly in the Spring and Summer when they add a bit of colour. It is important though that they are properly maintained so as not to cause annoyance or obstruction to pedestrians and vehicles.”
