Tyler Evans, a Northern Regional College graduate, has experienced a huge career highlightworking as a videographer at the 2022 UEFA Women’s Euros.
Tyler completed a TV and Film course at Northern Regional College after completing his A levels at Slemish College in Ballymena.
He had the opportunity to study at university in Liverpool but instead turned to the valuable career advice at Northern Regional College.
He said that he felt his time at Northern Regional College provided him with a quality learning experience.
Tyler’s lecturers helped him in deciding what next steps would benefit him most.
“I wanted to become a Broadcast Operator and knew that studying the Broadcast Engineering degree in Ravensbourne University in London would provide me with additional skills which would in turn make me more employable.”
Tyler is currently in his final year at Ravensbourne and has experienced amazing opportunities in his career despite not having yet graduated from his degree.
This includes being the Camera Operator at the 2022 World Coffee Championships in Milan, Italy; the Supreme Cage Fighting Championships in Bournemouth, England; and the West Ham United FC pre-season fixtures.
He has been an operator, vision mixer and graphics operator at the Charlton Athletic FC and match highlights editor for their Under 18, Under 21 and First Team fixtures and was the technical operator and vision mixer at the Congo, Food and Agriculture Pavilions at COP27 in Egypt.
Finally, Tyler also acted as the videographer at the 2022 UEFA Women’s Euros.
Reflecting on his experiences so far, and considering how others can learn from him, Tyler said that he took an opportunity to build a portfolio to gain experience and show future employers what he was capable of capturing.
“I took the opportunity to try out what I was learning at the College and at university by Camera and Graphics Operating small scale productions including school league rugby competitions and non-league football to make a portfolio for myself before moving forward to bigger jobs.”
When asked about his future plans, Tyler said he hopes to continue working at high production sporting events and has the opportunity to travel the world for his work.
Northern Regional College offers a range of full time and part time higher education courses.
Qualifications include Higher Level Apprenticeships (HLAs), Foundation Degrees, Higher National Certificates/Diplomas and Degrees. The College also offers an Access to University course which provides mature students with an alternative progression route to higher education.
