Larne RNLI launched their all-weather lifeboat in the early hours of Saturday morning following reports of a person in the water at Glenarm Marina.

The call came at 1:15am when HM Coastguard requested the assistance of the Larne volunteer lifeboat crew. The alert had been raised by a member of the public who reported that someone had fallen into the water at the marina.

The RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat, Dr John McSparran, was swiftly crewed and launched under the command of Coxswain Jack Healy, with Mechanic Scott Leitch and crew members Barry Kirkpatrick, Samantha Agnew, Martin Agnew, Shea McFerran, and Willie Evans on board.

Weather conditions at the time were favourable, with flat calm waters and little to no breeze, aiding the crew’s rapid response.

Upon arrival at the scene, the RNLI crew found that the individual had managed to get out of the water and was already in the care of HM Coastguard. The crew then went ashore to support the Coastguard team in delivering immediate casualty care.

The RNLI provided first-aid, administered oxygen, and monitored the casualty’s condition until the arrival of ambulance services. The individual was then transferred into the care of Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) personnel.

The Larne lifeboat returned to port at 3:30am.

Following the call-out, Coxswain Jack Healy praised the swift actions of the public and emphasised the importance of alerting emergency services in such situations.

“We would like to wish the casualty well. We would also like to commend the member of the public for raising the alarm, that is always the right thing to do,” he said.

The RNLI reminds the public that in any emergency at sea or along the coast, they should dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.
