Braid Ulster Unionist Councillor Alan Barr has welcomed the completion of resurfacing works at the Knockan Road car park in Broughshane, describing the upgrade as a “long-overdue improvement” that will enhance local amenities for families and the wider community.

The car park, which provides key access to the village play park and the popular Buttermilk Bridge Riverwalk, had deteriorated significantly in recent years.

Councillor Barr said “one of my key priorities is improving community wellbeing and one way to achieve this is ensuring our children and families have accessible spaces to play and enjoy.

“The previous surface had fallen into a poor state of repair and was full of potholes. Unfortunately, this poor state of repair discouraged families to use the carpark to go to the playpark or go for a walk along the Buttermilk Bridge Riverwalk.”

He added that the improvement follows persistent lobbying on behalf of local residents.

The Councillor continued: “I have been campaigning for this upgrade for the past two years so I am delighted to see this work finally completed. This new surface will make a real difference to those visiting the playpark and riverwalk.”

Welcoming the investment, Councillor Barr said the resurfacing project demonstrates a commitment to improving local infrastructure and maintaining safe, accessible spaces for residents.

In conclusion, he said:

“This is another positive step for Broughshane. It demonstrates that the Ulster Unionist Party is serious about delivering for the people of Braid and beyond.

“I will continue to push for further local improvements that make our villages safer, cleaner and more welcoming places to live and raise a family.”
