Antrim-based gas network operator firmus energy networks has officially rebranded as Kinecx Energy, marking what the company describes as an “exciting new chapter” in its journey to support Northern Ireland’s transition to a lower carbon future.
For the past 20 years, the business has built, maintained and operated the ‘Ten Towns’ natural gas network, connecting more than 75,000 customers across Northern Ireland.
Its network, which passes over 200,000 homes and businesses from Derry-Londonderry in the northwest to Newry in the southeast, will continue to provide reliable energy under the new Kinecx Energy name.
The rebrand follows the recent sale of the company’s retail arm and signals a renewed focus on delivering forward-looking energy solutions.
As part of this transformation, Kinecx Energy is exploring the integration of locally sourced biomethane into its gas grid – an initiative aimed at lowering carbon emissions, reducing reliance on globally traded fuels, and strengthening energy security in Northern Ireland.

Chief Executive Officer Niall Martindale said the company’s mission remains unchanged despite the new name:
“With a strong track record over the past two decades, we are delighted to be announcing the rebranding of our networks business to Kinecx Energy.
“The name might be different, but the job of connecting homes and businesses in our network to constant, convenient and lower carbon energy remains unchanged.
“Our values and commitment to delivering world-class customer service have been important cornerstones of our business since 2005, and they will remain so as we look forward to an exciting future as Kinecx Energy.”
Kinecx Energy has confirmed that services for new and existing customers will not be affected by the rebrand. The company’s postcode checker, available on its website, continues to allow households to check if their property can connect to the network.
Based in Antrim, the company says it will remain focused on maintaining the safety and reliability of its pipelines, supporting customers, and working with partners to accelerate Northern Ireland’s transition to cleaner energy.
