A free six-week programme combining football training with youth development workshops is set to launch in Kells this weekend, offering local teenagers the chance to get involved in sport and community learning.
The Kells Kickz Project, delivered by PSNI Ballymena Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) in partnership with Rangers Soccer Academy, begins on Saturday 27 September at the Kells MUGA facility (BT42 3HZ).
Sessions will continue on 14, 11, 18, 25 October and 8 November, running from 7pm to 9pm.
The initiative is aimed at boys and girls aged 14 to 18, with 36 spaces available.
Each evening includes one hour of workshops and group discussions on issues affecting young people in the local community, followed by an hour of floodlit football training on the modern 3G pitch, led by Rangers Academy coaches.
Organisers say the scheme follows the success of a recent programme in Ahoghill and hope it will have a similar positive impact in Kells and the surrounding areas.
A spokesperson for PSNI Ballymena NPT said:
“After the success of our last scheme in Ahoghill we hope this programme will deliver similar outcomes.”
The sessions are completely free of charge, with refreshments provided. Young people from outside the immediate Kells and Connor area are also welcome to take part.
Registration is now open, with participants encouraged to sign up early to secure a place.
